Ingrid Windram was born in Adelaide, South Australia, where she studied art fulltime at the Stanley Street School of Art, and then at the Hartley College of Advance Education. Whilst living in South Australia she travelled extensively through the state on field trips up the Strezleki and Birdsville tracks, to areas like Innamincka, Mulka Station on the cooper Creek, as well as Lake Eyre and many places along the River Murray.

Early in her career she painted Natural Forests in the Adelaide Hills and spent several years enjoying and painting the simplistic beauty of the Coorong. After ten years as a professional artist earning respect and recognition for her work, she moved to the Kimberley Region in 1992, looking for new inspiration for Art and Life.

The vibrant colours of the Kimberley landscape have inspired her work; however her paintings are not replicas of a particular spot, but are more the essence of this ancient environment in which she now lives.

To minimise the impact of the landscape she often simplifies the information to focus on light and colour, so as to generate a mood, and define its spirit. Her preferred medium is Acrylics on Rag Paper or Canvas, but she is also uses gouaches and charcoal.
